What the Media Says About Physical Activity0

What the Media Says About Physical Activity

Have you ever turned on the TV or opened up a magazine and seen a model (man or woman) staring back at you with a six pack and ‘perfect’ features. You’re probably wondering ‘how did they get so skinny?’ or ‘am I supposed to look like that?’ Absolutely not! Everyone is different so nobody should compare themselves to others!

Think about your favourite celebrity, they are probably size two skinny and in a guys case, they have a perfect six pack. While looking at these celebrities in movies or TV shows you’re probably think you’re fat. In most types of media (specifically TV shows) they don’t show how the actors, or the characters in the series, stay fit. It basically looks like they don’t have to try to be skinny. This has a negative influence on young adolescents because you are probably feeling insecure about how your body type doesn’t look as good as theirs.

On T.V if one of the actors goes to work out, most of the time they just say, “I’m going to work out.” It never shows them actually working out like jogging. If it does show them going into the gym they probably just hit on young men/women. It is not realistic just to go to a gym to ‘hook up’ with someone attractive, but that’s what the media does. It makes you believe things that aren’t necessarily true.

Some young adults may get upset over the fact that they don’t have a “rockin” body but some other young adults may be determined to get that body type just because they are jealous.  Several magazines show that even celebrities struggle with weight but it shows how they overcame that by eating healthy and getting lots of physical activity. Even though the media can have a very negative influence on our generation, it can also have a very positive influence that gets kids pumped to exercise.

If young adults think that they don’t have to have any physical activity to be fit just because of the media this is a very bad influence. It is important young adults know that physical activity is a big factor in being healthy. If they think they should be becoming slimmer just by eating healthier, they may think something is wrong with them because they are not losing weight. I think that most young adolescents turn to the media, such as the internet for advice. If they are not taught the proper way to stay fit, young adults may start taking pills to lose weight.

Everywhere you go you’re going to find some type of media, whether it is magazines or television programs. Just remember, to become healthier eat nutritious food and gets lots of physical activity. So the next time you run across some type of media turn a blind eye. Don’t go comparing your body or yourself to others and especially don’t compare yourself to celebrities because they are only human and they have problems too.

We Survived 2011~ In 48 Seconds1

We Survived 2011

This past year of 2011 has been filled with major events that will always leave an imprint on our world history. One of the biggest events that I would have to say was the killing of Osama Bin Laden on May 2, 2011. I think this was one of the most major events because he was the master mind behind 9/11. This was the event that killed men, women and children by the thousands and started wars in the Middle East, that have just started to calm down. It has been 10 years since the world has been searching for this man and this year the world, and especially the USA has finally found justice. This had an effect on me because if he wasn’t caught then he may have planned another terrorist attack that might have hurt myself or someone I know. I cannot imagine how the people that were involved in 9/11 and the families that were traumatized by this event, feel about his killing. He was a world wide threat and a horrible person that we no longer need to worry about.

Here is a video I made on FlixTime about the most important events in 2011.

Blogging Challenge ~ 2011 Nomanations0

I am so sad to be writing my last Challenge post for the year! With the help of Ms. Wyatt everyone who particiapated has truley improved with their writing skills and overall have become amazing bloggers.

This year I took nomanating seriously – I looked for deatailed posts, no smiley faces/grammar and overall appearence. I took me along time to chose my favourite blogs. The people I have nomanated have a true passion for blogging and writing!

Allexa http://2017am.edublogs.org/ - I chose Allexa for the best individual blog. What first attracted me to her blog was that her name is almost the short form for mine. But this isn’t why I nominated her. When I got to her blog I noticed the appearence was very organized and proffesional – which is a very good thing. I read some of her posts and they were very deatailed and about interesting topics. She deserves Best Individual blogger!

Miranda http://2016blumenfeldm.edublogs.org/ - I voted Miranda for best New blog because she has a very nice blog! But most of all she writes very good/long posts! I highly recommend her blog!

That’s all for now!

My All-Time Favourites0

Challenge 9

Thinking of favourites is difficult because I can never chose! My opinions are always changing, one day my favourite ice cream could be chocolate but tomorrow it may change to cotton candy. It’s a tough choice but I have come up with a few of my favourite things.

Electronics – My third most favourite thing would have to be the computer or any type of electronics. I love doing things on the Internet like working on my blog or finding new ways to communicate with my friends. The number one thing I do on my blog is going on Facebook. I love talking to my friends and finding out what they have been up too. I believe it is so much more efficient to talk your friends or ask a quick question. Anothr favourite thing I do on my computer is watching free online movies or TV shows. This way you can catch on on episodes o your favourite TV shows. My last favourite electronic is my Ipod touch. I am always listening to music on the bus and texing my friends at night!

Gymnastics-  I live, breathe and bleed gymnastics. Most people think this is a girly sport involving no muscle and no talent and think in hockey you need to be more tough then prancing around the floor in a leo. If your one of those people who is involved in a sport involving ‘more’ muscle let me know when you can climb a rope… with no legs! Or have to point and squeeze every part of your body while trying to do some kind of life defing flip. But that’s not why I love gymnastics. One of  the reasons is the feeling you get when your standing on the navy blue floor with the judges eyes glued to you, while your first pose while your waiting for your music to start. It’s amazing you feel like at that moment in time your the star and no one can take that away from you. The gym I train at is my second home and the athletes are my second family!

Family and Friends  Of course my all-time favourite thing in my family and friends! Since they moment I was born my family has taught me everything I need to be, to be a good person. As I grow older I am meeting new friends who I can trust deeply and know they will be there for me no matter who I am or who I turn into. I love spending time with my friends…they always make me laugh- in any situation. Those are the kinds of people I like to spend time with – people that raise my self esteem rather than tear it down. My family is so important because the shaped me into the person I am now. My favourite times with my family is when we just relax and watch a movie. So make sure to never forget your families because in the end they will be there for you when others are not!

I have many other favourite things like – sleeping. eating, shopping, dancing, music, laughing and many more!

My all time favourite qoute is by Marilyn Monroe-  This is a very good quote to live by.

“I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure don’t deserve me at my best.”

That’s all for now!
